The Brazilian beer sector mourns the death of Roland Reis

With much passion and diligence Roland Reis improved the art of beer production in Brazil. So it was no wonder that he was known as "Mestre dos Mestres".  He was considered one of the longest active brewmasters in the country and dedicated more than six decades of his life to the art of brewing in Brazil. Over the last 24 years, he has served as Brewmaster, Industrial Director and Member of the Supervisory Board of the Petrópolis Group, helping to make the company a benchmark for efficiency and quality.

He was also responsible for the development of new products such as Itaipava Premuim, Cerveja Petra and other beers. Roland Reis also developed several innovations in the beer market, which today are considered as reference everywhere. In the early 2000s, for example, he helped develop the aluminium foil on the lid of beer cans, which provides additional protection for consumers and is also a symbol of diligence and product quality.

Roland Reis was born in Rio de Janeiro, but had German roots. He studied at the TU Munich Weihenstephan at an early age. During his long career he worked for various breweries in Brazil and was responsible for the development of important beers as well as innovations that improved the entire production process. In the more than two decades in which he managed the production processes of the Petrópolis Group, Reis was one of the people responsible for important milestones in the company.

Roland Reis died in the city of Petrópolis on 25 June at the age of 78. He leaves behind his wife, three daughters, three stepchildren and six grandchildren.
